Dancing with Grandpa
by Maralee Gerke

Your work-roughened hand
took my tiny one.

A gentle arm around my waist
swinging my feet off the floor.

Dancing round and round
blonde hair and bald head

close together in polka time.
Stubbled cheek touching soft baby skin.

Tobacco and sweat mingled
with talcum powder.

Grandpa's beating heart.
