The Millpond
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

Water lilies float upon the surface
of the icy pond
koi drowse beneath their waxy petals,
green algae-tinted leaves,
neath reflections of a cloud filled sky
under the mirror of themselves asleep
in dreams awaiting warmer climes
with tepid water
to awake the memory of
summer's sun-dappled days,
the waterways that drifted them
to this sanctuary
where slumber is so sweet
