Piazza Duomo
by Annie Jenkin

Picking up vibes of hustle
and bustle in a new city,
weaving through the throngs
a hubbub of languages chatter,
cobblestones clatter
beneath the rattle of bicycles,
clip-clop of hooves
and patter of boots and shoes.

Piazza tables corral crowds
enticing them
with fresh pastries,
an expresso or latte.
Too early for pizza
lasagne or cannelloni
but heat sends a melange
of herbs, vegetables
and hot bread scents
to tantalise my nose.
