"Surely I am coming soon"
                    REVELATIONS 22:20
by B.J. Buckley

And the night air sweet
with jasmine scent—
alfalfa
full in purple
bloom.
Tomorrow?
There's a storm
in the west,
dark thunderheads, the sky
violet-green
presaging
deluge, hailstones,
shattering
wind.
Not yet.
Distant electron
muttering, great tributary
streaks, forked
lightning cloud
to cloud still
heaven-caught
above the narrow
canyon.
Air
alive with voices,
avian horde, the descant
warblers
choiring in the dusk—
marsh wren, robin, sparrow,
finch, blue heron's
barbaric
yawp.
Come, perhaps, and
gone
unnoticed
quietly as rails
in reeds
precise and careful
clothed
in that color made
between the shadows
and the
light.
