The Green Boat
After a painting by Guilda Dimi
by Michael Escoubas
There is a kind of blending here, a distinct
harmony
of sea and sand and twilight. The poet’s
wrist makes of its motions the grandiose
gestures of his heart:
Sky and clouds, the sea lightly kissing
the shore, grasses caressed by the wind
become communion
served on wings of breath and spirit.
The green boat, at rest on the sand,
an empty vessel,
like the poet, waiting to be filled
with wafers of yellow and blue, nature’s
lush renewal: glory
in color and sound, grace flowing all around.
