The Green Boat
by Sharmagne Leland-St.John
...after the painting by Guilda Dimi

Green boat rests
upon the spit of sand
On blue lake
locked by land

Dawn paints the sky
in pastel hues
Colours Turner
would have used

The oar that once would sing
quiet now
Paddle rests across
her wooden bow

Drowsy fish
half-asleep
Bide their time
in waters deep

Dream of mayflies
as they wait
For early fly fisher's
tempting bait

No one's angling
this time of year
Summer's gone
and Autumn's near

Green boat rests
upon the spit of sand
On blue lake
locked by land
