It Never Did Begin
by Deborah Russell

Sometimes you can't remember
how long the road has been
Seems your life is always moving
but it never did begin
You're standing in the crossroad
a map of circles, in your hand
aberrant directions -
destination, foreign land
Your dreams are worn and weary
every sidewalk is the same
Everyone's a stranger
no one knows their name
The sun and moon is dreary
in a jealous sky
Every truth you've ever known
is nothing but a lie
Sometimes you can't remember
how short the road has been
Seems your life is changing
but it never did begin
I wonder if you feel
love is just a losing game.
The future is behind us
and the past is full of sin
Now you're all alone
and no one is to blame.
I could never show you
how to make love remain.
You stare into space for answers
and pray to wayward winds
You never used the anchor
of your family and friends.
Sometimes you can't remember
how long the road has been
Seems your life is always moving
but it never did begin
You're standing in the crossroad
a map of circles, in your hand
aberrant directions -
destination, foreign land
Still looking for the lover
that you'll never find.
The sun and moon's still dreary
in a jealous sky
Every truth you've ever known
is nothing but a lie
We might have had a chance,
but love just made us blind.
Sometimes we can't remember
how short the road has been
Seems our life is changing
but it never did begin.
