LUIS CÁMARA, Madrid, Spain, 1964
BIO:
Luis Cámara was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1964. Economist by profession, he has
dedicated many years of his career to international cooperation with developing
countries. However, since he met watercolors in 2012, he has devoted entirely his artistic
activity to this technique, being currently one of the Spanish watercolorists with the
most international projection. He manages the water to fully exploit transparency
and subtlety, those qualities so typical of watercolor.
He has studied with some great watercolorists, is member of the Spanish Association of
Watercolorists (AEDA) and teaches watercolor in “Alda con Limón” School of Art, in
his own studio in Madrid, where he lives, and through online courses in ww.aqonline.es
His snowy landscapes and trees, his floral motifs that seem to float in the air, his
geometrical boats or simply, whatever he paints, has the distinctive imprint of modern
watercolor, of today's watercolor.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“I love watercolor for its immediacy, transparency, luminosity and the expressive
possibilities that water and pigment give us to create infinite atmospheres and textures. I
am fascinated by watercolor not only because of its amazing results, but also because of
the pictorial process itself: every new work is a challenge, and in the end, you never
know exactly what is going to happen, even if you have practiced enough to have some
control over how water, colors or different types of paper behave. The possibilities it
offers to work with different approaches makes each watercolor an adventure, an
amazing, fun and unique experience. Watercolor is for me the most suitable technique to
represent any subject from the suggestion, the synthesis and the simplification,
eliminating the details and trying to keep the essence of what we want to represent. I am
touched by those watercolors that, with a few brush strokes, suggest great stories”.
Luis Cámara has recently been awarded with the First prize in the Spring Watercolor
Contest 2019 of the Spanish Association of Watercolorists (AEDA). He has also been
selected and invited to participate in several national and international watercolor
exhibitions held in different countries: Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Russia, Eslovenia,
Albania, India, Chile, México and China.

Luis Cámara nació en Madrid, España, en 1964. Economista de profesión, ha
dedicado muchos años de su carrera a la cooperación internacional con países en
desarrollo. Sin embargo, desde que su encuentro con la acuarela en 2012, ha
dedicado por completo su actividad artística a esta técnica, siendo actualmente uno
de los acuarelistas españoles con más proyección internacional. El manejo del agua
de Luis consigue aprovechar al máximo esas cualidades de transparencia y sutileza
tan propias de la acuarela.
Ha estudiado con algunos grandes acuarelistas, es miembro de la Asociación
Española de Acuarelistas (AEDA) y enseña acuarela en la Escuela de Arte "Alda con
Limón", en su propio estudio en Madrid, donde vive, y a través de cursos en línea en
www. aqonline.es
Sus paisajes y árboles nevados, sus motivos florales que parecen flotar en el aire, sus
barcos geométricos o simplemente, cualquier cosa que pinta, tiene la impronta distintiva
de la acuarela moderna, de la acuarela de hoy.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“Me encanta la acuarela por su inmediatez, transparencia, luminosidad y las
posibilidades expresivas que el agua y el pigmento nos brindan para crear atmósferas y
texturas infinitas. La acuarela me fascina no solo por sus sorprendentes resultados, sino
también por el proceso pictórico en sí mismo: cada nuevo trabajo es un desafío y, al final,
nunca se sabe con exactitud qué va a suceder, incluso si se ha practicado lo suficiente
como para tener cierto control sobre cómo se comportan el agua, los colores o los
diferentes tipos de papel. Las posibilidades que ofrece para trabajar con diferentes
enfoques hacen de cada acuarela una aventura, una experiencia increíble, divertida y
única. La acuarela para mí es la técnica más adecuada para representar cualquier tema
desde la sugerencia, la síntesis y la simplificación, eliminando los detalles y tratando de
mantener la esencia de lo que queremos representar. Me conmueven esas acuarelas que,
con tan solo unas pinceladas, sugieren grandes historias”.
Luis Cámara ha sido galardonado recientemente con el Primer premio en el Concurso de
Acuarela de Primavera 2019 de la Asociación Española de Acuarelistas (AEDA).
También ha sido seleccionado e invitado a participar en varias exposiciones de acuarela
nacionales e internacionales celebradas en diferentes países: España, Italia, Francia,
Portugal, Rusia, Eslovenia, Albania, India, Chile, México y China.
