Winds Aloft
by Mark Fleisher

Wait at the intersection
crosswinds buffet my ride
get the go signal
accelerate into a sudden gust
white plastic bags billow
like undersized ghosts
across the windshield
tumbleweed sized
like soccer balls
careering along the pitch
TV weather fellow says
the wind comes from down
the mountain
at 65 mph
through canyon walls
when a woman chases
rebellious trash cans
down an otherwise
quiet country road
