Beyond the black skeletal branches
a farm scene fills this snow-covered landscape.
There is no distinction between the white color
of the sky and land, only a dark horizon of low hills,
trees and buildings separates the two dimensions.
Black cattle cluster in the foreground,
standing or lying still as they pose
for this cold, rural photograph,
where winter has stilled nature
with a white coat of quiet waiting.
