In Like a Lion
by Vaughn Neeld

How wild was the wind as it screamed around the
corners of the house and howled its wild song
down the chimney.

How wild was the wind as it careened over the deck,
clanked windchimes, overturned flowerpots and
deck chairs, and thrummed through the railing.

How wild was the wind as it beat upon the windows
demanding to be let in and when denied, wildly circled
the corner then rushed down the hill.

How wild was the wind as it tugged at shrubs and
lifted dead leaves high amidst the swirl
of dust devils before flinging them aside.

How wild was the wind on that late March Day
when tempestuous Spring danced a fierce tarantella
as she roared into town.
