The Willows and the Wind
by Stellasue Lee
Yesterday it rained. I look at WeatherBug
and today is overcast, a tad of sun peeking
between soft, billowing clouds. WeatherBug
informs the next ten days will vary between
rain, clouds, thunder, and pure soggy conditions.
For today, the willows call, their abundant
watery bark sap, deep emotional connection
of sorrow and healing. The slender branches,
elongated leaves, a place to sit and think,
to read and breathe as wind drifts through.
When my children were young, I read them
The Wind in the Willows, about a young mole,
his friends, Rat, Mr. Toad, and Father Badger.
Now they are all part of our history, along with
the willows we planted, a symbol of adaptability.
