Grandma E loved her flowers…
by Cindy M. Hutchings

Here, at Grandma's house
sitting in dining room
at the table with her

three vases with large bouquets
of lacey purple flowers
before us

tenderly finger blooms
pick one and see
it has roots

I ask
would you like me
to plant it?

we soak roots in water
go outside to her garden
by dining room window

in freshly turned black loam
within soft mound
I bury new life.
