before you can focus
your eyes. I will not
dress you in pink only.
You can be a princess
and a pirate if you want.
I will sing you lullabies
and rock songs. I promise
never to put you on a leash.
Tell me your secrets
and I will tell you mine.

If I hear “It’s a Boy!”
I promise (I’ll try) not to cry.
