Springtime Messengers
by Annie Jenkin

I'd like to jump into action
but there is an attraction
of staying here a bit longer
looking at words I ponder.

How can I convey
Spring is on her way!

is it—the sound of an early bee
the delicate blossoms of cherry trees
or as bluebells and buttercups
replace frosted flowers and snowdrops?

is it—when crocus bulbs are fully grown
or the scent of grass, freshly mown
and busy birds building nests
for chicks to grow, eat and rest?

is it—when warmer westerly winds
leave winter blues behind
or when turbulent rivers and relentless rain
ease back, letting the sun shine again?

it is—here for you to explore
Springtime is just outside your door.
