Signs of Spring
by Annie Jenkin
The wind tickles stems
ruffling primrose petals,
their pale lemon centres nestle
on a saucer-shape of green leaves.
Buttercups, dandelions and daisies
scatter themselves over grassy banks,
and bunches of daffodils
nod to those passing by.
The chirps of swallows catch my ear
it is so good to see them here,
as if to confirm Spring's arrival,
and to feel the warmth of sunshine.
