A Chinese Three-line Poetry String
by Yingcai
1. The Path
Father has walked
Roughly etched upon his brow
He's unwilling to bequeath it to us
2. The Laughter Mother Brought Over
Steamy and vibrant
Echoes around the dining table
Enveloping the whole family
3. A River of Benevolence
I am a boat on it
Swift or slow my ride
I cannot leave this river Mother opened
4. Wings
Holding Dad with my left hand
Mom with my right
I am a bird that knows how to fly
Author's Note: The above are Chinese three-line poems. Unlike Japanese haiku, which centers around the collision of two images to provoke thoughts, Chinese three-line poems emphasize thematic transcendence or the progression of escalating images to evoke contemplation.
