Listening to Lilacs
by Kathy Lohrum Cotton

Lacy lilacs by the lakeshore
lift their lavish scent
along the sandy loop,
their layers of light purple
luring leisure lovers
to leave their loud laughter
and lambent campfire light
to stroll the fragrance-laden
landscape. They linger lazily,
listening for the legendary
lyrics of little flowers, fluent
in the language of love.
