Nourishment
by Elayne Clift

Red and pink roses in a pristine room,
Sit in a vase on a table for two.
A freshly laundered yellow tablecloth
carefully compliments the roses bloom.

In a lavender hutch set against a calming wall,
Where cherished pottery and memorabilia reside,
Memories of times past and shared moments return,
Inspired by the quiet room, so peaceful and pure.

Who will claim the two chairs at evensong,
Soothed by the silence of a room full of love.
Will they recall the same moments and memories,
Or simply sit together, perhaps hand in hand.

Soon the flowers will need to be changed,
And perhaps the tablecloth too, they will note.
But, they agree, grinning to each other,
That will be the only thing that changes.
