November Parade
by Wilda Morris

Fifteen wild turkeys in bronzed uniforms
march haughtily, high stepping
through the woods like a band
that hasn’t learned to keep time to music.

The bare-headed conductor
Calls keow, keow.

Unable to stay in ordered rows
they pass each other
like lively children on the way
to a football game.
