A Perfect Fall Day
by Gretta Barclay

A perfect day has that feeling
that you can do anything
it’s a dancing in the rain kind of day
without the rain

And if I tried to tell you tomorrow
how it feels, I could not
It’s a day when I read apple recipes
seeing our trees weighted down with these

It’s a day when you notice
the slightest change of color
a day when curtains sway
in continuous movement with the breeze

The degrees are dropping
and rabbits are hopping, to find a winter home
soon it will be snowing and blowing
winds will make themselves known …
today, tomorrow, who knows when

I know that then, I will be inside …
a fireplace glowing
