All That Remains

Cut for the table
in all their blowsy glory
these summer roses
arranged for a painting.

Be quick artist
because cut roses fade
wilting away as you
apply your paint.

Soon these blossoms
will disappear
turned to scented dust.
And all that remains

will be the impression of
roses on a lifeless canvas
