A Tapestry of Colors
by Priscilla Turner Spada

Golds, rusts, and greens of lacy leaves
thread around the trunks of trees.

Tall, dark timbers hold the pattern,
braided through with flecks of auburn.

Ferns and moss weave gauzy green
along the edge of the water's sheen.

The silky surface–so like an Ikat
design, hand-dyed in Gujurat,

or satiny moire' from France–
is brushed and blurred, a shimmery dance.

The artisan who's spun this scene
weaves these colors through my dreams.
