Thanksgiving Dinner
by Wilda Morris

Another holiday gathering
with one sister missing–
an opportunity for gossip.

Between appetizers
they agree she’s remiss
as a mother.

They whisper her flaws
with the wine,

carve up
her boyfriend
with the turkey,

lick the palate
of her imperfections
with the pumpkin pie,

not satisfied
till she’s been chewed up
and swallowed.
