what would happen
on that day.

Never before had she
dared the experience,
ventured beyond the gate.

She anticipated
his coming, his promise.
She had promised.

What would she say?
What would he say?
Would he kiss her?

Would she retreat?
Would she return the kiss?
Would she dare the gate unlatched?
