The Proposal
by Sharmagne Leland-St.John

What would she say and what would happen on that day?
She had been dreaming of this day
since she was a 7-year-old flower girl
at her Aunt Lavinia's wedding.

She pictured herself in a white satin gown
with a Watteau style train
nine feet long, sweeping the aisle behind her
She'd want a two layer
cathedral length veil...
maybe a tiara for good measure.

Would he ask her father first?
What would her father say?
Would Father offer him a glass of scotch?
Perhaps a Cohiba Behike
from his treasure-trove of Cuban cigars.

Once he had her father's blessing
would he immediately
come out of the oak paneled study, to propose?
Would he invite her out to the garden?
Would he get down on one knee?
Or would he wait until after dinner?

So many questions to ponder
What would she say?
...and what would happen on that day?
