Lizard Queen
by Sharmagne Leland-St, John

All the scratching sounds
I hear at night
that wake me from my sleep
are not rats nor mice
inside the walls
they're lizards
come to claim me
as their queen

On Coronation Day
I'll wear a feather boa
fancy dancing shoes
made from burnished leather
a gown of leaves and flowers
finished off with creamy puff
of tatted lacework at my cuff
streams of gauzy trailing veils
a crown of polished amber

Hail to the Queen...
Long Live the Queen!
