You Left Too Soon
by Marcel Aime Duclos

I lament
the loss of your companionship
dear hummingbird
of your symphony
dear cricket

I sigh
when waves of grief
raindrop the columbine
mingle with the sounds of night
under shrouded moonlight

I open
this October Monday’s door
Her keys hang by the calendar
wave to the columbine by the window
who sighs a symphony of lament
for me and for the hungry crickets

I seek
the symphony of the west wind waves
playing in the moonlight
of last night’s dream
want to hear the crickets sing

How will I learn to hover above the loss
without you here to teach me
hummingbird
cricket
columbine
