Summer's Gone Now
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John
Summer's gone now
Trees bare
Snow where Irises
And lillies
Once flourished
Bulbs and rhizomes
Sleep peacefully
'Neath the frozen loam
Beside the cottage
We once called
Our summer home
We missed autumn
This year
Too busy in the city
To even care.
Some said
This cold snap
Wouldn't last
Shimmering
In twilight's
last glare
Sun sets golden
Upon the pond
Where we paddled
Our little boats
In summers past
