Seeking on Hallows’ Eve
by MFrostDelaney
“It is said that All Hallows' Eve is one of the nights
when the veil between the worlds is thin.”
–Erin Morgenstern
A passage through a long and darkened sphere
with pinpoint light ahead that grows and grows …
There’s moss under my feet, but I can hear
some branches crack beneath my careful toes.
They touch the ground before I put my weight
into each step, take care this sacred night
to venture out, to seek your final fate,
and hope I learn it in the far-off light.
The Quija’s brought me here against my will.
I thought it just a game. But now I find
that this one night would bring me to the trill
of spirits’ sadness they so long have whined.
Then suddenly, an opening breaks through.
The thinnest veil of fog appeases rays
emitting from the crypts of many. You
come to my sight, your eyes a haunting gaze.
I want to hold you, know you at long last–
my unborn child, release the painful past.
