Birth Month
by Jeannie E. Roberts

When gold touches orange / kisses
toast / stirs beside scarlet / brushes
oak / when amber joins poplar and
river birch / sways between maple
and cardinal’s perch / enlivens the
forest / that’s where I’ll be / deep
in the thicket / communing with
trees / as autumn awakens / orbits
the Earth / washes the woodlands
and October’s birth
