Love, as Surprise
by Diana Rosen
It came when Autumn came
like a slow collapse of a silken parachute
folding into itself, unexpected, welcomed,
necessary; a love so lush, so vivid, mere
adjectives weren’t enough.
It came when Autumn came
like any change of season yet it surprised
us, we who were once alone, wondering
if this could be all that life would ever be.
Now, so delighted to be wrong.
