The Call of Our Roots
by Gay Williford

Home is a concept that, for most,
conjures up warmth, loving kin,
good food and security.
It is our first experience with family.
of belonging to a group
where acceptance is given unconditionally.
It is the backbone of any culture.

Our first memories of home
remain with us throughout our lives–
a powerful, never-quiet influence
that urges us to recreate some semblance
of that original childhood setting.
It is a force that haunts and steadies us,
insisting we attend to this recreation
in which we try to transfer its
best learnings on to the next generation.
Home is the hunter in all of us!
