Motif 1, by Rick Yenofsky

At Day's End
by Vaughn Neeld

Under a red, white, blue-bannered sky,
placid waters caress rough rock–
an ancient jetty built up stone by stone,
caged within wire, rock, and wood,
a weir shaped much like a fishermen's trap.

Upon the jetty stands a red, board-built barn–
perhaps a place to process fresh-caught bream.
Beneath the sun's last bloody rays,
the barn's tin roof dully gleams.

Now all awaits, hushed, another day.

Within the shore-lined, white-washed town,
supper is being laid.
