Planting Bulbs
by Dan Fitzgerald

Squirrels hide treasures in the yard.
A rabbit sniffs the air in suspicion.
The last tomatoes blush deeply
on a window’s edge.
The garden has had its final turning.
A lawn mower yearns for winter sleep.
As the shadows grown long,
I sit on my porch, wondering,
where I am going to plant
all the damn bulbs I bought
earlier in the year?
