Machu Picchu
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John

Montezuma’s daughter
had gold strewn at her feet

Men offered you the Koh-i-Noor…

In wistful embrace
you declined the Eiffel Tower,
the pyramids at Sakhara,
an island in the ancient seas
off Madagascar,
the palace at Cooch-Behar,
but you accepted me.
