Silent Communion
by Maralee Gerke

Beneath the green bower
light and shadow
paint watercolor stripes
across empty tables
waiting for ghosts.

Barefoot, sitting on the stone steps
a feeling of ephemeral remembrance
overcomes me.
The murmuring of old stories
and memories of times gone by
join me in silent communion.
