Imagining  Silence

Try imagining the silence 
of the primeval mountains and sea.
A space into which you can fit
your life and all your species lives.

 
Stand on the shore against the
pull and push of the tides.
Close your eyes and listen
to the nothing.

 
Let the ancient upheaval
that first cracked the crust
fill you with awe. 
Stretch your arms wide to

 
take in the everything.
Hold quiet close to you.
Breathe in the flavors of
of the fecund world.

 
Let a deep calmness
expand, your heart.
Become one with the pause
that is the stillness between breaths.
