Tea Party
by Candace Turner

Mother and daughter
sit on a faded plaid blanket
spread under their backyard oak tree.
An imaginary tea party under way.

Six-year-old Melanie,
dressed in her canary yellow
best summer dress,
passes tiny cups and saucers.
Together, they sip pretend tea.

The baby robins nestled in the hedge
bordering the garden,
serenade them with birdsong.

Wind chimes jingle with every
warm breeze.
The flower garden buzzes with bees.

A perfect day…a perfect memory.
