Blue Sky, Distant Thunder
by Michael Escoubas
(A Huitan inspired by “Ground Swell, 1939” by Edward Hopper)

By first impressions all is well,
mountainous atmospheres of sky
and sea, blue undulations swell
serenely with no hint of why

the catboat’s muscular men, shy
to engage the woman, would stay
their gaze toward the ominous cry
of the bell buoy on the wave.
