The Empty Chair
by Sheila Elliott
(A Huitan inspired by 'Nighthawks' by Edward Hopper)

The empty chair, near a window
was a welcomed discovery
on that evening, a place to go
where a dozen others like me

set their apartness aside, to be
alone together, just somewhere
where silence is easy to see
and aloneness defies the glare
