Summer Nights
by Bob Moore
Step outside your home
into the evening air–
Welcome the silent light
and feel small.
Notice the Cirrus clouds,
above them the first stars–
Spin around and wait
for one to fall.
Turn your head and find
two stars of the Great Bear–
Follow their five-line path
to the polar north.
Adjust your eyes below
to watch bugs flash in fields–
Count their seasonal rhythms
pulsing forth.
Your fate is in the hands
of something more than luck–
Stars can only grant
so many wishes.
Your soul can find its way
most any summer night
by watching the night light up
before you do the dishes.
