Why I Visit Old Bookstores
by Vaughn Neeld
I visit old bookstores because of
the plethora of books lining sagging shelves,
the delight of finding that special one, long looked for,
the search for obscure works
while savoring the smell of century-old treasures,
the caress with respectful fingers of velvety covers,
the joy of discovering an obscure first edition,
the excitement of finding a book with uncut pages,
the cozy corner nook in which to sit
while skimming through a stack of random tomes,
losing myself in other lives and other worlds.
