ABOUT THE BOOK:
The term “journeyman” figures big in Jacob erin-cilberto’s twenty-fifth collection, A Journeyman’s Poems. Those described as journeymen are usually experienced practitioners within a field of expertise. While the term often references a specific “trade,” look for erin-cilberto’s poems to encompass more, much more. With a beckoning wave, he calls, “Let’s “journey through life, together.”
ADVANCE PRAISE:
Having spent my working life in the printing industry, I began as an apprentice printer. Four years later, after completing Union-sponsored on-the-job training, I was given my “Card.” This coveted piece of paper served as proof that I had completed my basic training and was now competent to perform in all aspects of the printing trade. If there is a “trade” embedded in Jacob-erin-cilberto’s poems, it has nothing to do with becoming a plumber, printer, or carpenter. Erin-cilberto’s wide-ranging themes reflect a life lived through the lens of poetry. In that sense, erin-cilberto is a true “journeyman.” These lines from “Belonging” are but a sampling: “i saw you yesterday / in the lake’s reflection / the water’s swirl / still could not extinguish // the flame / you became.”
–Michael Escoubas, author of Ripples Into the Light, PhotoPoetry, with Vandana Bajikar

FROM THE BOOK:
Journey
by jacob erin-cilberto
I am like a wagon
with three wheels
pointing to the light
and one less round
crookedly, cowardly
riding on a rim of darkness
in the early morning
on a broken keyboard
in expensive adherence
traveling a circle
of loneley
afraid to change
letting my heart’s axle
run aground.
I sleep within myself
rather than
join the train
where the others
await.
