Aging Into Another Life
by MFrostDelaney
The crooked tree looks to its crooked mate,
calls out amidst the fear of falling down.
The mate is frail itself, along in years
and cannot reach across the meadow’s green,
whose dandelions keep their beauty now
before they turn to puff balls for the wind
to capture them and whisk them into sky,
abandoning the only home they’ve known.
Upon this field, the city’s noise steals in,
as urban crawl creeps towards the natural world,
enticing nature, naïve in its ways.
The crooked trees are aging out within
their wanting to be closer – and they will,
when mulchers come and take the life they’ve known,
transport them to another usefulness.
So whether nature fells them, or this world
reshapes, rebuilds them, they will always be
together in their next-lives, longing-free.
