Haibun for August
by Marcel Aime' Duclos
Having learned to live satisfied in the naked now, black-bellied magpies find cover under the evergreens; mountain cottontails hop to their foraging; the
northern flicker returns alone this morning; tree sparrows and house finches
populate the stripped, dry branches of the dying oak–ornaments sanctifying
the season in the company of a downy woodpecker and red-winged blackbirds: all this plumage hidden to the blind, and the western bluebirds breaking
through the moment to satisfy. How else to satisfy what is enough?
