Take Me to the Fair
by Wilda Morris
Please, Daddy, take me to the fair.
I won’t spend too much,
but I want to ride the Ferris wheel,
the scrambler and the flying chair.
Git me a bacon popcorn ball
’n let me ride a bumper car,
’n that big free-fall ride
that makes my hair fly up.
The fairground really isn’t far.
This year, I’ll sit still at the dog show–
they jump through hoops
and give a handshake.
I’ll stay in my seat
and not complain if my feet ache.
I’ll bet Jamie wins the ribbon
for that pumpkin in his plot–it’s awful thick.
He’ll take me on the roller coaster, too,
and help me win a prize for throwin’
balls or darts, ’n buy me tarts,
’n chocolate chip cookies on a stick.
The pony rides are so much fun!
I know I won’t get sick
from those big buns with cinnamon.
I want to see the clowns with painted faces,
the tractor pull and pig races,
’n Marcy in the talent show.
and ride the tilt-a-whirl.
’n you could join the cow chip throw,
Daddy, if you take me to the fair.
