Alice was Here
by Howard Osborne

Upon a chair in the corner, it sat and stared at me
An animal, at first I had thought to be my pet cat
But now with some focus and scrutiny, clearly not
White stripes in the fur that I had not seen before
And the look behind which lurked something odd
Like it was a manifestation from the storybook tale
As if I had somehow summoned it from the ether
But any such dalliance could not have been briefer
I then tried to shake off the feeling but to no avail
Yet could this be some path that others had trod
I kind of knew when it began to stretch out a claw
And it slowly started to blur, like a fading ink blot
Leaving only a haunting smile, then not even that
But like Alice In Wonderland, this was my fantasy
