Imposing Royalty
by Gay Williford

Ensconced upon a chair in the corner,
lay his royal highness Duke,
luxurious, black-furred cat,
white streaked face and belly,
a spray of twitching whiskers
beneath two piercing green eyes
and a definite attitude of superiority.
Reaching timidly to stroke him
I received a low raspy growl and
eyes that warned “don’t you dare!”
Quickly drawing back, I pondered,
how was I to live with this creature,
the beloved pet of my fiancé –
a bodysuit, leather gloves and face mask?
