ABOUT THE BOOK:

Since his arrival in America in 1961, William Marr has delighted legions of followers with poems and art that speak to the heart of where we live. In his latest collection, Songs of You and Me,Mr. Marr, master of every genre of shorter-form poetics, offers the accumulated wisdom of decades of writing. Robert Frost has written, “Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.” What an apt description of Songs of You and Me: Selected Poems.

ADVANCE PRAISE:

William Marr’s poems, always short, sharp and well-aimed, intrigued me early on. Never one to milk his subjects, he goes straight to the heart of his topics and his readers, making his work unforgettable.
–Glenna Holloway, Founder and First President of the Illinois State Poetry Society

I first met William Marr in January of 2016, at a gathering place for poets, “The Brewed Awakening Coffee House,” in Westmont, IL. It was my first opportunity to read my poems in public. Mr. Marr read his poems during the open mic part of the program. As he read his short, but pithy poems written in classic oriental style, I thought, “Oh, to be able to write like that!” William Marr was out of my reach then and still is.
–Michael Escoubas, author Monet in Poetry and Paint

FROM THE BOOK:

Every Gust of Wind is a Poem
by William Marr

wind is invisible
yet you know
this gust of wind comes from Siberia
you can see glistening icicles
formed under the eaves right after its passing

that wind comes from a field of spring
the gently floating white clouds
the softly vibrating leaves
the chirping birds and insects
the laughing children
all carry some fragrance of flowers

that window-shaking wind
is to warn you
of an approaching thunderstorm

this moist wind comes from your heart lake
standing by its shore
your old lover is reciting with tears
the love poems you wrote for her
many years ago
